“Bad Day?”
.“A messenger arrived at Job’s home with this news: “Your oxen were plowing, with the donkeys feeding beside them, when the Sabeans raided us. They stole all the animals and killed all the farmhands. I am the only one who escaped to tell you. “While he was still speaking, another messenger arrived with this news: “The fire of God has fallen from heaven and burned up your sheep and all the shepherds. I am the only one who escaped to tell you. “While he was still speaking, a third messenger arrived with this news: “Three bands of Chaldean raiders have stolen your camels and killed your servants. I am the only one who escaped to tell you. “While he was still speaking, another messenger arrived with this news: “Your sons and daughters were feasting in their oldest brother’s home. Suddenly, a powerful wind swept in from the desert and hit the house on all sides. The house collapsed, and all your children are dead. I am the only one who escaped to tell you. “Job stood up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the ground to worship God. He said,” I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be stripped of everything when I die. The Lord gave me everything I had, and the Lord has taken it away. Praise the name of the Lord!” In all of this, Job did not sin by blaming God. (Job 1:14-22 NLT)
.
So, to recap what happened to job; first the Sabeans raided and killed his farm animals and employee. Second, a fire fell from heaven and burned up his sheep and shepherds. Third, a band of Chaldean raiders came and stole his camels and again killed his servants. Fourth, his son’s and daughters were dining together when a mighty wind swept up and collapsed the house and killed them all. And to add insult to injury, there was always one person who was left to tell him the news of what happened. But through all this, even the death of his children, Job praised the Lord. “Job stood up and tore his robe in grief. Then he shaved his head and fell to the ground to worship God.” I don’t know what bad report someone has delivered to you or one that you have received, but I am here to tell you that through it all, we should still praise the Name of the Lord.
.
Many of us who are fighting the good fight may ask why these things happen if we are striving to work in the kingdom of the Lord. The answer is quite simple, Just as Job says, “I came naked from my mother’s womb, and I will be stripped of everything when I die. The Lord gave me everything I had, and the Lord has taken it away.” Everything we have is a blessing from God and we should regard it that way, but when it is no longer with us, we should praise him for what we still have. We came in this world with nothing and when we die, we don’t even take our flesh in blood with us either! Job understood a simple principle, that if God blessed me before, he will continue to bless me. “Praise the name of the Lord!” In all of this, Job did not sin by blaming God.” I know when things continually go wrong, it is easy to put it off on the Lord, but take courage! Know that trails are sent to test character and it is by character that will get you through those bad days.
